Canada, often called “Hollywood North,” is a hotspot for filming. The country boasts stunning scenery and bustling cities like Toronto and Vancouver. It also offers enticing tax breaks. Local favorites like Workin’ Moms, Kim’s Convenience, and Trailer Park Boys are well-known Canadian productions. Surprisingly, many other TV shows have also been filmed in the Great White North.
The Boys
Despite being set in New York, the series is filmed entirely in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Key locations include Roy Thomson Hall as Vought International (digitally enlarged), an East York store as Hughie’s electronics shop, and Yonge-Dundas Square as a stand-in for Times Square. The A-Train vs. Shockwave race was filmed at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field, while other GTA spots like Etobicoke, Mississauga, and Oshawa’s Parkwood Estate also make appearances.

Star Trek: Discovery
This seventh installment of the Star Trek franchise was filmed in Canada, Iceland, and Jordan. Canadian locations include Toronto and Hamilton. The Aga Khan Museum in Toronto serves as the Vulcan Science Academy in a flashback scene. Hilton Falls Conservation Area, near Toronto, appears in a forest sequence featuring Michael, Saru, and Ash. Scarborough’s Bluffer’s Park, known locally as “The Bluffs,” provides a dramatic backdrop for the Kelpien Village scenes.

Suits
Suites often used Toronto as a stand-in for New York City, taking advantage of its resemblance to Manhattan. The New York-based law firm in the series is set in downtown Toronto, while Rachel’s wedding plaza was filmed at the Fairmont Royal York hotel. Many familiar streets, buildings, and landmarks appear throughout the show as Mike and Harvey discuss their cases.

Riverdale
In Riverdale, Pop’s Chock’Lit Shoppe serves as a central hangout for the characters. For the pilot, filming took place at Rocko’s Family Diner in Mission, British Columbia. Later episodes used a set. This set was built in a Langley parking lot. Riverdale High School was primarily filmed at Lord Byng Secondary School. Additional scenes were shot at Burnaby Mountain and John Oliver Secondary Schools. Other notable filming spots include Bear Creek Park in Surrey and Alouette Lake.

The Bold Type
The pilot of The Bold Type was filmed in Toronto, Ontario. The rest of the series was primarily shot in and around Montreal, Québec. This boosted the local economy. The office atrium is located at 1000 Pl. Jean-Paul-Riopelle, with views of the Palais des Congrès just across the street.
