Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Bianca Lawson played the character Kendra Young in the TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Kendra, a black character, was introduced in Season 2, providing diversity to the predominantly white cast. Lawson’s portrayal of Kendra spanned four episodes, making a significant impact on the show’s storyline and representation.

Shameless

In the TV series “Shameless,” Shanola Hampton portrays Veronica Fisher, and Christian Isaiah portrays Liam Gallagher. Both characters are black, providing diversity to the show’s predominantly white cast. As Veronica, Hampton brings depth and humor to her role as the outspoken and loyal friend of the Gallagher family. Isaiah’s portrayal of Liam, the youngest member of the Gallagher clan, offers a perspective on race and identity within the context of the show’s gritty, working-class setting. Breaker High

Single Parents

“Single Parents” features Kimrie Lewis in the role of Poppy Banks, a spirited single mother balancing career and parenting.  The Office

Edi Gathegi’s portrayal of Ronald brings depth and intensity to the series, showcasing his talent as an actor in a prominent role. Through Ronald’s storyline, “StartUp” explores themes of power, corruption, and the pursuit of the American Dream, with Gathegi’s performance adding richness to the show’s narrative. 

True Blood

In the predominantly white setting of the HBO series “True Blood,” Rutina Wesley and Nelsan Ellis stood out as two prominent black actors, bringing diversity and depth to the cast. Rutina Wesley portrayed the resilient and complex character Tara Thornton, while Nelsan Ellis played the flamboyant and beloved Lafayette Reynolds. Despite the show’s predominantly white ensemble, Wesley and Ellis’s performances captivated audiences, highlighting their talent and contributing to the show’s success. Tragically, Nelsan Ellis passed away in 2017.

Safe Home

Aisha Dee stars in the drama series “Safe Home,” which premiered its first season on Hulu in 2023.
