Angela Laverne Brown, known as Angie Stone, has a career that spanned over four decades. She became a trailblazer in both hip-hop and soul music. She rose to fame in the late ’70s as part of the pioneering female rap group The Sequence. She later transitioned to R&B with the group Vertical Hold. Then, she launched her successful solo career. Her debut solo album, “Black Diamond,” released in 1999, gifted us timeless classics like “No More Rain (In This Cloud).”

Angie’s unmistakable voice and heartfelt songwriting made her a leading force in the neo-soul movement. Over the years, she earned multiple Grammy nominations. She collaborated with some of music’s greatest, including D’Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, and Erykah Badu.

Beyond the music, Angie shared her talents as an actress. She appeared in films like The Fighting Temptations. She also lent her voice to the theme song of the hit sitcom Girlfriends.

Her most recent project, “Love Language” (2023), showcased her enduring passion for music. It featured collaborations with Musiq Soulchild and her son, Swayvo Twain.

Angie Stone leaves behind a legacy of love, soul, and undeniable influence. She is survived by her daughter, Diamond Stone, her son, and her grandchildren.
